The last time I had a chance to get involved with AmCham (The American Chamber of Commerce), I was actually on the social committee and had the pleasure of helping to organize a great wine fair-business networking party at Anson Rd. On that night, some 200 or more people came, and most left with lots of new business cards in the pockets and lots of wine in the belly.
This Thursday I once again had the pleasure of attending one of the so-called ‘YP Networking Nights’ Or ‘Young Professional’ nights. The other aspect that greatly interested me is that it happened to be in, what I think, is one of the most underrated bars in Singapore, The Chupitos Bar in Clarke Quay.
The event started at about 6.30pm and was very quickly filled by an incredible multinational crowd. In the space of one hour, I’d met a Korean, Japanese, English, Welshman, American, Czech, Russian, Chinese and of course Singaporean. By the time the venue hit critical mass, there were easily in excess of 120 people participating in the networking, as well as the 2 hour freeflow of alcohol.
During that time I had a good chance to catch up with owner and founder of the Chupitos Bar, the stunning Jamie Koh.

When I asked her what made the Chupitos Bar so different…
“The Chupitos Bar is the first specialized shots bar in Singapore. There are over 130 different shots on the menu…My concept is a shot which appeals to everyone” she explained.
One very cool promotion they are launching in conjuction with their 1 year anniversary is a chance for frequent visitors to the Chupitos Bar to get their name on the wall of fame…All you have to do is down 100 shots over the course of a 2 week period…for those of you (like myself who need a calculator) who aren’t too hot at maths, that means you’d have to down approximately 7-8 shots per day, everyday….Alamak!
After being scared by the prospect of so much booze entering my system, I continued chatting with some lovely attendees of the event, including Liyana Othman, the Corp. Commuications Manager for AmCham aka. Organizer of the event.
For anyone who does know what AmCham is…here is a brief summary from Liyana herself:
“AmCham is the largest foreign business chamber in Singapore. We have over 4,500 members from 700 companies. The sort of things we do are executive educational events and provide networking opportunities for our members …..The idea is to create a great business community here in Singapore”.
As mentioned, AmCham offers a series of other events, held at the HQ on Shaw Building in Orchard. There is literally something of interest for everyone and non-members are also welcome to go. To check out what’s on offer, go to www.AmCham.org.sg
Right, I need to get some more sleep…After the freeflow, I decided to grab myself a bottle of some lovely Bourbon and continue the revelry. Hangover begone!
And remember, if you’re up for a challenge, head to Chupitos for 100 shots in 2 week bonanza….And good luck, to you and your stomachs!
Nomad out.
