The wine on the other hand was like a Bond Girl - 'Sexy, Elegant, luscious…but carries a gun'. Such a beautiful wine in the mouth but it sure packed a punch on the finish with some serious pepper and spice notes. One thing I was surprised was how well it paired with the Scallops.

Amateur wine competitions are one of my favorite activities to attend. 1) Because I can usually do relatively well being the wannabe wine enthusiast that I am. 2) It’s really casual and has no pomp, 3) It’s a lot of fun. So when I heard that Equatorial Wines were teaming with Celina’s Gastrobar to organize such as event, I had to get involved. I have known Mike Back (Aussie) and James Coetzee (Springbok), the founders of Equatorial Wines from before they founded EQ Wines. What I can tell you is that they are both massive wine professionals with a rich background in wine appreciation. They pride themselves on only bringing great wine of good value to Singapore – One of my personal favorites is a great Californian Old Vine Zinfandel for $34! Learning the traditional techniques from an Italian Gelato Specialist, they came to open ‘Ice Creme Man’. What I really like about them and their outlet is the uniqueness of their product...

Rochester Park has got to be one of my favorite areas for dining in Singapore. It’s open, not too crowded and the standard of food across the board is pretty high. One place which I particularly enjoy visiting is Onaka. A relatively new addition to Rochester Park family, and something quite unique in Singapore. As you can see from the first picture, Onaka prides themselves on being a healthy and nutritious dining destination. Everything is organic, gluten free (oh, and no lard! Always appreciated). From the very moment you arrive, you start feeling more relaxed. Aside from the Rochester Park forest charm, the restaurant to me seems more like a garden green cafe in it’s atmosphere. It’s mainly outdoor dining (about 30-40 seats), but there is a small area of about 15-20 seats inside – which is where I general choose to sit in order to not become a...
