Etna – A volcanic force of Italian Cuisine

Etna – A volcanic force of Italian Cuisine

It’s high time since I write about what is hand-on-heart, my favourite Italian in Singapore. With an unassuming location on Duxton Rd, you could easily walk by and miss it…but step inside and a memorable dining experience awaits. I’m very pleased to say that on this occasion I had the pleasure of going there to celebrate the impending marriage of two great friends of mine, M&A. Congrats guys! To be straight-up, what I like about Etna is that it’s one of the only places I’ve been in Singapore which feel like a local Italian. It’s not’s ‘fine dining’ establishment so the prices are surprisingly reasonable and it’s a cozy place, divided into two distinct areas. Seating no more than 40 at a time, it feels like someone’s extended living room. So why do I rate Etna so highly? 2 main reasons. 1 – The food is simply excellent. The...

Giddy Up! The Marmalade Pantry comes to the Stables.

Most of you will be familiar with The Marmalade Pantry as the favourite pit stop for brunch, lunch and of course cupcakes at ION Orchard when all that shopping has left you trying to keep hangry (a.k.a. hungry anger) at bay. Well The Marmalade Pantry has shown that it is definitely not a one-trick pony (excuse the pun!) with its second outlet which recently opened up at The Stables, offering up all time favourites, as well as new signatures exclusive to this second establishment. I was keen to take up the invitation to check out the new addition because a) The Stables is a fab little spot which hopefully most of you will have checked out at least once –  think a lush green enclave tucked away by Bukit Timah Saddle Club and b) Because it’s taken oven the premises of a once favourite of mine – Mimolette. It’s...

Casserole – Tis’ the Season for Sharing

Tucked away in the far end of Sentosa, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, I made another hidden find. Casserole is one of the restaurants under Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and is a 247-seat restaurant that offers 4 different cuisines – Indian, Moroccan, South East Asian, and Western. Dishes are served in casserole pots (hence its name), and are recommended to serve 2. Although I would say 1.5 would be more accurate. Its large seating space, wide menu offerings and dishes that come in sharing portions, makes Casserole the perfect place for family or large group gatherings. The Food All the dishes had their own character and charm, and with everyone having different taste preferences, each had their own favourite. Western: Beef Bourguignon – beef slow-cooked in red wine sauce and flavoured with garlic, pearl onions and mushroom   $26 The beef was slow-cooked to perfection...

Enough Steak to feed 8 hungry Ang-mos…..A night at Brazil Churrasco

So honestly, it’s been way, way overdue that I finally check out the Brazil Churrasco on Sixth Avenue. Aside from not being close to the CBD, my previous experiences with Latin American style steakhouses in the region have not exactly been memorable so I embarked with some skepticism. However, when it was recommended to me by a very good Brazilian friend of mine as ‘the finest Brazilian Steakhouse in Singapore’, my excuses ran dry. The 8 of us rocked up at this pretty unassuming (though very busy) venue and took a table near the back…As we walked through, my Brazilian friend was merrily greeted by at least half the staff in fluent Portuguese. This already began to inspire confidence in me. I’m a firm believer that truly authentic cuisine can usually, only made by people of the appropriate ethnicity. If you have never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, this...

Cocktail Challenge at La Maison Du Whiskey

By MsDemeanour Singapore (click here for her site) What’s that I hear you say? A cocktail challenge at La Maison Du Whiskey? But surely you must be mistaken! Yes La Masion Du Whiskey is of course the place for well, you guessed it, an incredible selection of whiskey, but those who are after something other than the big W will not be disappointed as the bartender Tron has a few surprises up his sleeve in the form of cocktails too. Before you launch into the cocktail challenge, ease into things with a cocktail off the menu.  I tried the Passiflora which was quite a tangy taste sensation made with Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin (yes with hints of Saffron no less!)… and passion fruit, lemon and sugar. And here it is… If you do want to go down the whisky route, as my newbie friends did, Tron will adeptly recommend...
